    Dorian Relief Update

Tuesday, September 10:  Please read this great update from Mark Zee and his team at OPSGROUP.  They helped coordinate the initial air relief flights by providing info on Bahamas airports, TFRs, and other logistical information to the various operations. They did a tremendous job in a hectic environment, so our hats off to them.  It appears the bigger operations have stepped in (UN, USAF, NGOs, etc.) so they are stepping down.

There is still a need for the business aviation community's help, though on a more specialized basis.  If anyone would still like to assist, please reach out to Scott Ramsden and he can put you in touch with the appropriate parties.

There are still multiple drop off locations where you can donate and drop off much needed supplies.  Below are a list of the most needed supplies and current drop off locations in the tri-county area (additional locations to be added).

If you would like your facility or office to be added as a drop off location or if you are interested in having your facility added as a staging area for relief flights please send an email to scott@ramjetaviation.com and it will be added to our list.  The list will be published on the SFBAA website and updated regularly.

Our friends at Odyssey Aviation have given us some more information regarding how to help out in the Bahamas.  Please see the pdfs below regarding information about Aviation Support Donations.  Any questions can be directed to:

    Julie Silberman
    Odyssey Aviation
    (561) 312 0953
    jsilberman@OdysseyAviation.com

Julie was also kind enough to share with us some photos from the ongoing relief effort which I've posted here.

    DROP OFF LOCATIONS
It seems all FBOs in South Florida are willing to waive fees and provide fuel discounts to those interested in participating in relief flights!

Signature FBO, PBI: 1500 Perimeter Rd., West Palm Beach, FL 33406

Signature is accepting items that will be delivered via Cherokee Air Limited. Please contact Jose.cabrera@signatureflight.com or 561-683-5939 for questions.

Contact:  Isadora 1st or Giselle 2nd
Sending e-mail to Banyan with regards to help for the Bahamas: helpinghands@banyanair.com

As in the past the Banyan Team is ready to assist those that would like to send or fly aid to the Bahamas.  As an official “Gateway to the Bahamas FBO” we are working with the Bahamas National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) through the Bahamas Tourist and Aviation Office.

We will be using Hangar 9 which is attached to the Jet Café to label and store cargo that will be airlifted to the Bahamas.

We have forklifts and manpower to assist.

There are those that wish to send supplies but have no way of getting the supplies to the islands and there are pilots that volunteer their aircraft and can carry cargo but this MUST be coordinated.

Just dropping off a pallet of supplies with no way of getting it to the Bahama is not wise.

We will soon know exactly what supplies are most needed (initial list is below, although some of the items must go by barge rather than by air)

Our team at the front desk can assist with Bahamas Flight Plans and with documentation for your flights and there is a special “helping hands” fuel price and no ramp fees to those flying relief.

Gold Aviation, FLL: 1420 Lee Wagener Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33315

Gold Aviation will be accepting donations and will be managing relief flights to and from the Bahamas.  If you are interested in donating your aircraft and/or pilot services please reach out to the Gold Aviation Team (charter@goldaviation.com or 954-359-9919).

Jetscape Alpha FBO Hangar, FLL: 350 SW 34th Street, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33315

Jetscape will be accepting donations and will be managing relief flights to and from the Bahamas.  Please contact 954-359-9991 or customerservice@jetscapefbo.com.

Privaira, BCT: 3690 Airport Rd, Boca Raton, FL 33431

Privaira will be operating flights to assist those needing to get to and from the Bahamas. Please call 561-886-0380 or email sales@privaira.com.

The Boca Raton Airport Administration (BRAA) office will serve as a collection site for donations that will be sent to the Bahamas.

The Grand Bahamas Port Authority set up a Grand Bahama Disaster Relief Foundation which appears to be a direct way of getting relief funds to those in the Bahamas in need.  You can read about and donate here: www.gbdisasterrelief.org

Here is a NY Times article with some other avenues to donate to as well: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/03/world/americas/hurricane-dorian-how-to-help.html

The SFBAA has been at work with some of the other aviation organizations (FABA, AOPA, TBAA, NBAA, etc.) to garner support for a Florida House Bill being proposed in the legislature.  We are asking for your help in showing support for this bill in hopes it gets passed in Tallahassee.

We strongly support House Bill 975 which will act to clarify that that liens claimed under Florida law for labor, services, fuel, or material furnished to an aircraft are not possessory liens and thus, a person claiming such a lien does not need to keep the aircraft in his or her possession to enforce the lien. The bill allows a lienor to enforce a lien for fuel, labor, services, or material furnished to an aircraft even if the lienor releases the aircraft to the owner or operator. This will make it easier for a lienor to recover money owed for maintenance on an aircraft without keeping a commercial aircraft out of service and potentially disrupting commercial air travel. This will also allow the owner or operator of an aircraft on which a lien is claimed to keep using the aircraft while he or she works to satisfy the lien.

Please take the time to email Governor DeSantis directly to show support for the bill, here is the link: https://www.votervoice.net/NBAA/campaigns/64855/respond

Feel free to circulate this (and please take the time to click the link to email the Governor). Thanks.

    from: https://nbaa.org/aircraft-operations/airspace/regional/southeast/faa-hosts-meeting-brief-proposed-miami-fort-lauderdale-airspace-changes/

Business aircraft operators based in Southeast Florida, and frequent users of that region’s airspace, are encouraged to attend a public meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 27 to hear from the FAA Eastern Service Area on planned airspace modifications to Miami, FL, Class B airspace and Fort Lauderdale, FL, Class C airspace.

Attendees also will have an opportunity to present recommendations and comments on proposed changes.

Those planning to make comments or give a presentation will be assigned a time slot, and are asked to limit comments to the plan to modify this airspace. All public comments and presentations made at the meeting will be considered in the FAA’s notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM).

“NBAA encourages business aircraft operators based in the region or those who frequently use this airspace to attend the meeting and prepare relevant comments,” said Heidi Williams NBAA’s director of air traffic services and infrastructure. “This meeting is a great opportunity to share your expertise from flying in the area and any concerns about the proposed changes with the FAA.”

The public will have another opportunity to comment after the NPRM is published.

The meeting will be held at Broward College, South Campus Building 69, Room 133, 7200 Pines Blvd., Pembroke Pines, FL. Learn more about the meeting and how to submit comments.
