DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla., March 23, 2016 - The South Florida Business Aviation Association recently awarded $27,000 in scholarship money and charitable donations at its general membership meeting on March 10, 2016.
The SFBAA gave $3,500 general scholarships to Hakeem Bailey of Spanish River High School in Boca Raton and Kyle Miller of Deerfield Beach High School. Both students plan to put their scholarships toward their education at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
Additionally, the SFBAA awarded a $5,000 Dave Davis Memorial scholarship to Cristina Trabada of West Broward High School in Pembroke Pines, Fla. Trabada received the scholarship for her work as a camp counselor at Experience Aviation’s STEM Summer Academy in Opa-Locka, Fla.
Twenty-eight local high school students applied for the SFBAA’s 2015 scholarships. Entries were reviewed and winners were selected by the organization’s scholarship committee.
Additional donations totaling $15,000 were given to Make-A-Wish Foundation, Angel Flight Southeast and Christian Air Services at the SFBAA’s general membership meeting.
“Working with these charities over the years has been a great experience,” said Jeff Ramsden, SFBAA president. “We are also very proud of this year’s scholarship winners, as they are the future of our industry. It is a privilege to help support them.”
