The FAA released a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) on January 10 that would update and extend Part 5 SMS requirements to Part 135 outfits, certain Part 21 certificate holders, and air tours operating under FAR 91.147. There is a comment period now through April 11. You can read the NPRM here. The FAA Part 5 NPRM is reaching the end of its comment period, and so far the industry has only submitted 74 comments...most of which do not meet the mark.
This is a critical time for the industry to rally together around Part 5, and provide feedback to the FAA.
