The South Florida Business Aviation Association (SFBAA) raised nearly $40,000 at its 12th annual golf tournament, the SFBAA Charity Golf Classic. The money will be awarded to multiple SFBAA scholarship recipients and several charities.

The 2015 SFBAA Charity Golf Classic hosted 180 golfers at PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens on October 31, 2015.

The SFBAA will award general scholarships to two outstanding high school seniors from the south Florida area who plan to further their education in the aviation field. The organization will also award a Dave Davis Memorial Scholarship to a south Florida high school senior who has made an outstanding contribution of community service during his/her high school career.

The scholarships will be presented at the SFBAA general membership meeting on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Jet Aviation in West Palm Beach.

Remaining proceeds raised at the golf tournament will be donated to Make-A-Wish Foundation, Angel Flight Southeast and Christian Air Services.

“The SFBAA scholarships play a vital role in the aviation careers of graduating high school seniors,” said Jeff Ramsden, SFBAA president. “It is our privilege to contribute to their futures in addition to supporting other national charities.”

The SFBAA has raised more than $200,000 for scholarships and charities in the past 12 years.

Headline sponsors for the 2015 SFBAA Charity Golf Classic included Bombardier, Falcon, JSSI, Gulfstream, Textron, Flightdocs, Satcom Direct, Jet Effect and Florida Jet Sales.

A message from our President of the Board, Jeff Ramsden:

"I wanted to send everyone who participated in our 2014 Charity Golf Tournament a special thank you, as we ended up raising more than $35,000 this year!  It is more than double any fundraising in years past and we couldn't have done it without all of your support.  The money raised will be going towards Angel Flight, the Make-A-Wish Foundation and into the SFBAA Scholarship Fund.  As I explained at the tournament, we are now able to add an additional scholarship this year, the Dave Davis Memorial Scholarship for Outstanding Community Service in honor of our late friend who gave back so much to our community.

We recently received an email from Debra Edhlund, the mother of one of our past scholarship winners, Isabelle Edhlund, that I would like to share:

    Good afternoon,

I thought you might like an update on my daughter Isabelle Edhlund, recipient of the SFBAA scholarship in 2011.

For the last two summers Isabelle has interned in Colorado and Alabama with United Launch Alliance (ULA).

She will be graduating this winter with her degree in Aerospace Engineering and in the spring she will be interning with NASA at the Johnson Space Center in Texas. Over the summer she will intern with ULA again but this time at Kennedy Space Center.

She has been accepted into the graduate program at UF and will continue her education in the fall of 2015.

Thank you for the support that was given to her in 2011, it helped her get where she is today!

    Regards,

    Debra Edhlund

As you can see, the scholarship has played a vital role in the lives of graduating high school seniors and we hope to continue to do so for many years to come.

Our sponsors have been essential in allowing us to raise so much money, so they deserve additional gratitude.  All of our sponsors, as well as the participants in the tournament can be found on our website in the Photo Gallery, or by following this link.  If anyone would like a full size photo from the gallery printed out and mailed to them, please let Scott Ramsden know and he can arrange that for you.

Of course, none of this would ever be possible without our headline sponsors who continue to support us every year.

I look forward to seeing those that can make it at our Holiday Party on Thursday.  To those that cannot, have a Happy Holiday and excellent New Year."
